Another Banner Year!

School’s out for summer, which means we are proud to announce a new group of DMDS scholars. This was the strongest group of applicants ever. Choosing the winners from the 11 finalists was almost impossible. These students are so talented that we ended up awarding three scholarships and also gave two thousand dollars each to two more students.

Let us tell you a bit about the new scholarship recipients:

Caiden Hernandez graduated from Clear Creek High School. He will be studying environmental engineering at University of Houston - Clear Lake. He is incredibly articulate talking about his love of nature and why he chose this career path.

Harry Phan graduated from Clear Lake High School. Harry was born in Vietnam and came here with his family. At first, all was well, but then tragedy struck – his dad was diagnosed with and ultimately died from brain cancer. This tragedy has made him more determined to succeed. He will be studying engineering at Texas A & M University.

Juan Rangel graduated from MacArthur High School. He needs a scholarship because of the financial strain that has always loomed over his family. He will be attending the University of Texas to study computer science, but he is also interested in sociology.

Each of these students has faced serious challenges. Each is committed to the one thing they know can help them break the cycle of poverty --- a good college education. We feel so honored to work with them so that they can achieve this goal We couldn’t do it without you.

Two New Graduates

At the same time we welcome these new students, we’re excited to also congratulate our two college graduates, Sarisma Valdivia and Litzy Martinez! They are now looking forward to starting their new jobs in business and engineering.
